 At three o'clock in the morning on Monday, August 18, 1969, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young took the stage at Woodstock. As Stephen Stills expressed to the audience in colorful language, it was only their second gig. Neil young skipped out on most of the acoustic set, which was driven by three acoustic guitars, one of which was Gram Nash's Martin D-45. The D-45 was — and remains — the ne plus ultra of acoustic guitars, a six-string object of desire for any singer-songwriter or acoustic guitarist with career aspirations. A rare gem in Sweetwater's Guitar Gallery, the Martin D-42 Woodstock 50th Anniversary commemorates the mother of all music festivals with a flawless instrument that is at once a working musician's axe and a family heirloom that will still be played — and cherished — in 2069.
